If you’ve been lucky enough to eat at Brasserie Blanc in Jericho’s Walton Street, you’ll know this is one of Oxford’s leading restaurants which delivers every time.
We were warmly greeted by the team, with all expected COVID protocols in place and shown to our table.
Prior to our visit, Chloe had commented that, “we are delighted to be open again with a new menu, new wine list and our Happy Hour, from 5pm to 7pm Monday to Friday, is 2-4-1 on selected cocktails.”
The menu certainly offers an abundance of choice and it was hard to narrow it down
We raised a glass (half a Peroni for me and a glass of prosecco for Tina) to celebrate being out again as our starters arrived. Tina had the Jackfruit Fritters & Green Papaya Salad with Thai dressing, toasted cashews and crispy noodles. It certainly looked tasty and Tina signalled her approval with a clean plate!
My chicken liver parfait was silky smooth, served with caramelised red onion marmalade and toasted brioche. A great start to the evening … even better when my beautifully chilled glass of Viognier arrived (Le Versant, Languedoc-Roussillon, with touchers of peach, apricot & honey).
Next up, the main event….I’d had a sneak preview of my main when a guest at the next table was served, so I knew what to expect. I’m a big fan of meaty fish and the Halibut steak on the bone with champagne sauce, Keta caviar, prawn potatoes with spring onion, spinach & chives didn’t disappoint. No matter how good an amateur chef you are – and you will have had plenty of practice over the last 14 months! – nothing quite beats the flavours of a dish prepared by a professional! This was amazing and I savoured every mouthful.
Tina’s Malabar fish curry with toasted coconut looked equally amazing. The full dish was roast cod with aromatic spices and coconut milk, grilled King Prawn, shallot crisps and coconut rice.
The excitement of eating out combined with the unbelievable flavours left us with absolutely no room for dessert, sadly. I had the rhubarb crumble in my head but that was about as far as I got!
Thank you to Gabi, Veronika, Ben (GM) and the rest of the excellent team at BB for a great first night out….we’ll be sure to be back and you must make sure to add this special restaurant to your ‘Must Visit’ list.
