New Long Hanborough Surgery Among Highest Vaccinating Sites in Oxfordshire

The Hanborough Surgery, which was built by Pye Homes Blenheim, as part of their Hanborough Gate development is now also among the highest vaccinating sites in the county in the fight against coronavirus.

The new site is approximately twice the size of the old Long Hanborough Surgery, which it replaced, with six consulting rooms along with a number of treatment rooms.

It also features a pharmacy on the ground floor with a state of the art ‘robot’ to dispense medication efficiently.

Graham Flint, MD Pye Homes, said: “We are really proud of what we have achieved with the Hanborough Surgery, it is a community facility that has been widely acclaimed.

“It’s really important for us because we want to deliver on our pledges. We promised the community we were going to improve their facilities, which is exactly what we have done with this new surgery,” he added.

Pye Homes’ architect Rob Fairfield worked closely with GPs from the Eynsham Medical Group during the design and construction process.

To streamline the COVID-19 vaccination programme, Rob altered the surgery’s design to allow patients to have their vaccine and leave without having to go through the reception.

“The previous surgery was built in the 1960s. The new surgery has meant the patients arrive happy and come in enriched by the space and amazed by the transformation we have seen,” said Dr Neil Rust.

“The layout of the building has enabled us to vaccinate large volumes of people such that we have been one of the highest vaccinating sites in the county,” he added.

The complex was built using energy-efficient construction methods and includes modern offices and facilities for the staff, as well as a meeting room and ample parking for patients.

The team also had to reinforce the pharmacy floor to accommodate the one-tonne robot, which automates the storage, dispensing, return, restocking and crediting of medications.

Tracy Girvan, Practice Manager, Hanborough Surgery, said: “The new surgery has benefited staff morale because we came from a small old building and to come into somewhere spacious, light and bright has really lifted people’s spirits.”

The surgery forms part of the Hanborough Gate development, which features a selection of one, two, three- and four-bedroom homes to the western side of Long Hanborough.

A total of 169 homes will be built by the end 2021 which include help to buy, shared ownership and affordable rent options in partnership with Blenheim Estate Homes.
