Sobell House – May News Update

May 10, 2021 | News

At Sobell House, we are looking forward to relaunching our events, starting with our (not the) Winter Walk on the 18th July. As you can probably tell from the name, this was our postponed walk from January this year! I hope you will join us for this scenic walk around the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace and support Sobell House. You will find details of how to take part in this newsletter.

Thank you for taking the time to read our monthly e-newsletter and being a fantastic supporter of Sobell House Hospice Charity. We couldn’t do what we do without you. Take care, stay well, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Chris and Pippa’s Story

This month, Chris shares his story of his experience of Sobell House during the time his wife, Pippa, was admitted in June 2020. He talks of the kindness and attentiveness of the staff, and how the small things can sometimes make the biggest difference. We are so grateful to Chris for bravely sharing his story, and to all our supporters who have made this experience possible for he and Pippa.

Thank You to our Community Heros!

We are so grateful to everyone who chooses to raise money for us, and we have had some brilliant fundraisers in recent weeks. Sam (pictured) cleaned his neighbours’ cars and raised over £400 in memory of his Nan, Harvey baked cakes for his village, raising £60 in memory of a friend, and Marina ran over 2000 miles to raise over £600. If you’d like to talk about ways you can help support our work, our new Community Fundraiser, Niki, would love to hear from you.

A Day in the Life of a Hospice Nurse

This month’s Day in the Life feature is from Ellie, a nurse on the Sobell House ward, who has kindly taken the time to share some of the important work she does with us. Ellie works to ensure that all our patients are comfortable and well cared for, and that their loved ones are supported too. Ellie works with such kindness and compassion, and we are so grateful to the generosity of our supporters, who make nurses like Ellie possible for us.
